Coding Fellowship Student: James
"I wanted to open a lot of different doors to potential futures, be that web development, game development or app development. I felt that the bootcamp was a great way to achieve this goal." We chatted to bootcamp student James about why he signed up
James made the move from Software testing to coding after always having an interest in code. He is excited about the different career doors that can be opened by completing our Bootcamp.
What was your background/career before you joined the Coding Fellowship bootcamp?
I have spent most of my career working as a software tester after finishing a work based NVQ program.
Why did you opt for a web development bootcamp when you were already working in Software?
I felt that software testing didn’t have very many options for career progression, and after working closely with developers in previous roles it inspired me to learn to code myself as I found what they did interesting.
When you were first considering bootcamps, what was your vision to where they could propel you in your career say…. 5 years on?
I wanted to open a lot of different doors to potential futures, be that web development, game development or app development. I felt that the bootcamp was a great way to achieve this goal.
What were your main concerns before enrolling on the bootcamp?
If it was really possible to learn everything needed in the space of just three months.
How have those fears been dispelled since being on the bootcamp?
It feels like we are learning something new nearly everyday, so I don’t doubt that by the end of the bootcamp we will have learned a wide range of skills and methods.
What was your coding experience before the Course?
Very limited. I did some evening classes in C programming in 2012 which gave me a good base understanding for JS.
How would you describe your experience so far on the bootcamp?
Very enjoyable. Fast paced but with plenty of support available.
How have you found the support on the Bootcamp?
Amazing. The support and camaraderie of my fellow students is brilliant and the support on hand from Jack (the TA) and the teachers is top notch.
What would you say to someone thinking of attending our Coding Bootcamp in Bristol?
Think about what kind of future you want for yourself and if you are prepared to work hard to get it.
What role are you looking for after the Bootcamp? Where do you see yourself in the future?
I’m open to various roles and look forward to seeing what positions will be available upon graduation
